Dr David Torstensson is a Research Fellow with the Stockholm Network. David first joined the Network in 2007 and has worked on projects from all our program areas specialising in Intellectual Property and Competition and Health and Welfare. Primarily, his research has focussed on economic and social policy and has included index-building, surveying and data analysis.

Based on his research David has represented the Stockholm Network in briefings with policymakers and industry representatives in the UK and abroad, including meetings with the UK’s then Parliamentary Undersecretary of State for Intellectual Property; the EU Commissioner for Consumer Protection; and the then White House Office of Public Liaison.

David continues to work on both broader public policy issues as well as more specific research on innovation, intellectual property and competition. His latest project examines the growth of nonprofits and the third sector in the provision of governmental services in the United States.

David holds a doctorate (DPhil) in American History and Politics from Oxford University. His thesis, The Politics of Failure – Community Action and the Meaning of Great Society Liberalism, questions popular and historiographical assumptions about the nature of American liberalism during the 1960s and the Johnson administration’s place in American political history.
