David Torstensson - Senior Researcher

David Torstensson joined the Stockholm Network in June 2007 for an internship, and is now a Research Fellow working full time in the London office. David works on issues relating to both the Health and Welfare programme as well as the Intellectual Property and Competition programme. His latest publications include 'Free Use or Fair Use? The Role of Internet Mediators in Protecting Intellectual Property Rights` and the upcoming think piece `Can Free Market Solutions Salvage the Collapsing Welfare State?'

Alongside his work at the Stockholm Network, David is in his fourth, and final, year of doctoral research in American political history at the University of Oxford. The topic of his DPhil thesis is Great Society liberalism and the politics and policies of President Lyndon B. Johnson`s War on Poverty. While at Oxford David has successfully presented his research at academic conferences and convened the first ever postgraduate conference at the Rothermere American Institute, University of Oxford. He has also taken an active part in undergraduate teaching, both as University tutor and co-convener of the third-year Special Subject 'The Great Society Era, 1960-1970'.

David holds a first class BA in History from King`s College, London, and a Master of Studies degree from the University of Oxford in American History. He also holds University certificates in Russian and Eastern European Studies, and Political Science from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.
