CEE Ahead

CEE Ahead aims to put forward a new vision for healthcare in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Its purpose is to advance health reform and modernisation in the region. Partners involved in the project seek to create a better understanding of best practice in healthcare from around the world, which may be of practical use in changing the nature of healthcare in Central and Eastern Europe.

Many countries in Central and Eastern Europe have already made enormous strides in modernizing their health systems and in introducing more diversity of healthcare provision, moving away from the state-led systems of the past.

But how can a more competitive market be created without sacrificing social solidarity? How can CEE countries attract greater investment in their health systems? Is there a way to allow patients to take more control of their own treatment and care? How can new innovation and respect for intellectual property rights be encouraged? And do CEE countries, in some cases, still need to address issues of transparency and the rule of law?

Building on the policy needs and priorities of CEE countries themselves, as well as other stakeholders in the region, CEE Ahead’s aims are to promote debate and to stimulate learning on these key themes, in the interest of better patient outcomes and in the context of sustainable and adequate healthcare financing for the region.

Our two key activities will be: (1) convening events that bring together reformers, academia, opinion formers, practitioners, patient groups, businesses and think tanks from the region around the topics discussed above; and (2) generating new studies and learning on these topics.

This section of our site will bring together a host of information including newsletters, country reports, conference proceedings, and existing and new studies. We hope it will be of interest to anyone who cares about a healthy future for Central and Eastern European patients.
